NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — There's a shy kitten waiting at No Paws Left Behind for a family to love her.

 

iBerkshire's Companion Corner is a weekly series spotlighting an animal in our local shelters that is ready to find a home.

 

Batina is a 6-month-old domestic shorthair mix who has only been at the shelter for a couple of weeks.

 

Batina and her brother, Piglet, who is already adopted, came from a home with an owner who had too many cats. 

 

Volunteer Debbie Melle introduced us to Batina.

 

"She's a little shy at first, as you can see, she's not coming out of the kennel," she said. "Her brother would be flying out of the kennel. She's more reserved, but very sweet when she finds the toys or treat she enjoys."

 

While Batina can be shy, she has started to come out of her shell in the shelter.

 

"We found that over the weeks that she's been here, she's coming out more. She likes to play with all the different anything with the feathers or little toys that she can come after. She loves it. She's very content in her little kennel right now," Melle said.

 

Batina can go to a home with respectful dogs or children. She would also potentially do great with another cat. While her brother was a little rambunctious, she would be fine with a calmer feline companion.

 

"I think a calm home, but I don't think she would do bad with another cat, because we've had other cats come by. She doesn't growl, she doesn't hiss, she doesn't get scared," Melle said. "So I think she just needs someone calmer than her brother was. Her brother was kind of a little hard play, and she kind of backed away from that. So I just think either by herself, she would do just fine, or flourish with a friend."

 

Batina is a kitten and still finding her personality, she said. She is very sweet and could be a lovable addition in your family.

 

"She's just lovely. She's a beautiful coat. Got a great face, just a sweetheart. And I think because she's only 6 months old, she has a lot of growing to do and coming out in her personality," she said.

 

Batina is ready to find her new and forever companions.

 

"She's ready for forever home and to get out of the shelter and into a loving home is where she's ready," Melle said. "She is ready. She's a sweetheart."
