ARLINGTON, Vt. — There's a dog at Second Chance Animal Shelter that is ready to play fetch with her new family.

iBerkshire's Companion Corner is a weekly series spotlighting an animal in our local shelters that is ready to find a home.

Ava is a 4- to 5-year-old Labrador and pitbull mix who has been at the shelter for a couple of months after her owner had to move and couldn't keep her.

Shelter Manager Troy Quinn introduced us to Ava who he says loves to play fetch.

"Playing fetch, 100 percent that is her favorite thing to do. She's very good at it. She's a very obedient girl," he said.

Quinn said Ava gets along with everyone she meets and loves to be with people.

"She's very bouncy, friendly, get's along with pretty much everyone. She's not super playful with other dogs, but she is very good about correcting them if they get too rough," he said. "She'd rather just be with your people and play fetch, but she does seem to do okay with other dogs, other cats, maybe a little bit older children that are used to big, bouncy dogs."

Her perfect home would be one where she can enjoy plenty of exercise and have lots of room to run.

"An active home would definitely be best for her, somebody that's very oriented, which gives you her play time in. She loves to exercise, but she is very good about going in her kennel. She could be vocal at times, but nothing too crazy."

Ava can go home with other dogs and cats who are OK with her high energy. Quinn also said young children are Ok if they can handle her energy as well.

"It'd have to be the right dog or cat. I mean, that's just used to a big bouncy girl. She kind of does like to be the queen in the house, but she does very well. She's been great with all people, though."

Ava is ready to find her new forever home with the perfect family who will play with her and give her what she needs.

"She just loves to play. That's her biggest thing. And then snuggle up on the couch."

If you think Ava might be the girl for you, reach out to Second Chance Animal Shelter and learn more about her on the website.

Second Chance Animal Shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 3 p.m. It is located at 1779 VT Route 7A in Arlington. Contact the shelter at 802-375-2898 or info@2ndchanceanimalcenter.org.
